Ecogift,
partial or total

By transferring their property to a local, regional or national conservation organisation, landowners make sure that the natural habitats found on that land will be protected in perpetuity. Their give up their rights to that property and are no longer responsible for the corresponding taxes. By donating their property to a conservation group with charitable status, they are also eligible for tax credits and other advantages.

Conservation

By entering a deed of servitude towards the dominant land owned by a conservation group, landowners can protect their land in perpetuity while keeping their property rights. Furthermore, the servitude option makes landowners eligible for tax credits.

Nature Reserve
on a private land

The Nature Reserve on Private Land status ensures the perpetual protection of natural habitats while landowners keep their property rights. This status results from a legal agreement with Quebec’s ministère du Développement durable de l’Environnement et de Lutte contre les changements climatiques du Québec. On signature of this agreement, landowners become eligible for tax benefits.

Gift
Planning

Gift planning towards a charitable conservation organisation is little known to the public, though it is increasingly popular in the financial and succession (inheritance) planning. In the long term, it is a key tool in ensuring the continued existence of charitable conservation organisations and the sound management and stewardship of natural areas protected in perpetuity. Governments encourage donations made to charitable organisations. They provide tax credits for individuals and deductions for companies.
